Sree Peralassery temple is a famous pilgrim centre in the North Malabar region of Kerala, situated at Peralassery in Kannur District. The main deity worshipped here is Lord Subramanya swami. One of the main attraction of this temple is the beautiful temple pond.
Devotees believe taking a dip in this pond is considered sacred. This rectangular pond has an impressive architecture with countless steps leading into the pool from all the four sides. The local people believe that on the day of Thulam Sankramam, water from the Cauvery river will reach the well of temple pond.
Locally known as ‘Ayanivayal Kulam,’ the temple’s step well now holds a place among the 75 recognized water heritage sites in India. On the occasion of commemorating 75 years of Indian Independence, Ministry of Jal Shakti officially declared these water bodies as heritage sites, highlighting the historical and architectural significance of the temple pond, believed to have origins dating back around 1,500 years and showcasing Vastu-based design features.
