Atham Nakshatram in Malayalam Month announces the arrival of the Onam festival. A colourful procession is the main attraction of Athachamayam celebration.  The history of Athachamayam is traced back to the reign of the Maharaja of the erstwhile Cochin State. Athachamayam marked the journey of the King, with his followers, from Tripunithura to the Thrikkakara Vamana temple for participating in the Onam festival.  Theyyam, Karakattam, Mayilattam, Thiruvathira, Oppana, Ammankudam, Kummattikali, Kavadi, Thiruvathirakali, Kathakali, Aattakavadi, Pulikali and other artforms attracts thousands of people on that auspicious day.
