The Karni Mata Temple in Deshnoke, often referred to as Madh Deshnoke, is a significant Hindu shrine dedicated to Karni Mata, situated about 30 kilometers south of Bikaner in Rajasthan.  It is well-known both in India and internationally as the “Temple of Rats” because of the large population of sacred rodents, known as kābā, that are revered and protected by worshippers. This unique aspect is sometimes highlighted as an example of an “environmentally conscious Hindu ethos.” The temple attracts a wide array of visitors, including those seeking blessings and curious tourists from around the globe.

Established around 1530 after the passing of Karni Mata, the temple originally featured a simple dome covering the inner sanctum. Over the centuries, it has expanded significantly, with various enhancements made by devotees contributing to its current grandeur.
